Yesterday Mommy and Daddy went to the latest doctor's appointment to see how I'm doing in here. They got to listen to my heartbeat which was much easier to find this time now that I'm quite a bit bigger, and they measured Mommy's belly. Beth, one of the midwives we see, said that I had a good strong heartbeat and Mommy's belly measured at 15 cm, which is perfect for 15 weeks. She said the pregnancy is progressing beautifully and everything looks great.
That being said, Mommy's blood sugar looks like crap, even on this restricted diet. It's nothing Mommy is doing wrong, because clearly she is following the diet as closely as she can as she has actually lost 3 pounds, which Beth said is a sign that she is following the diet. They like the bad sugars to only account for 20% of her total readings, and she was already over 30%. This early on in the pregnancy, that's not so good. So they are referring her to the local diabetic doctor to let them monitor her diabetes throughout the pregnancy. The good thing about this is that she can still remain on the regular schedule of midwife appointments just like everyone else until 32 weeks when she will have to start going twice a week for close monitoring of me. Those appointments are long because they involve twice weekly fetal heart monitoring and once weekly ultrasounds. So Mommy will wait for a phone call today to set up her first diabetic appointment and then our next regular appointment is in 5 weeks when they get to see me on the ultrasound!!!
